Winemaker Notes: The 2013 Eruption is rich and intense. The wine exhibits aromas of blackberries, fresh baked bread, stewed plums, and a touch of tar, giving way to flavors that are jammy, ripe and unctuous. The palate explodes with ripe blueberries, mixed berry tart, fresh tobacco leaf, and toasty vanilla notes. The texture of Eruption is perhaps its most distinguishing trait - mouth-coating with an endless finish. Be certain to have a second bottle on hand, the first won’t last very long. This Eruption will enhance slow-roasted lamb with cinnamon and fennel, filet mignon, or pasta alla puttanesca.

Vineyards - Volcano Ridge Vineyard is located on the steep slopes of an extinct cinder cone at 2,200 feet above sea level on the eastern end of High Valley. The pure volcanic soils are ideal for vine stress, restricting crop yields, and making wine that has both intensity and elegance.

Winemaking - Our winemaking team is fanatical about quality and the use of traditional handcrafted techniques. It creates wines with both style and finesse. Fermented in small lots using native yeast, the wine is then aged in French and American oak barrels (30% New) for 8-10 months before being blended and bottled without filtration.

The 2013 Eruption is a blend of 38% Malbec, 36% Syrah, 16% Mourvèdre and 10% Petite Sirah.
