Gail "Doris" Red Wine 2016

Winemaker Notes: Doris is a forward-drinking, European-inspired table wine. The blend changes every vintage depending on the vineyards and varietals we chose to work with. In 2016 we sourced Merlot from the Pickberry Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain and the Bedrock Vineyard in Sonoma Valley. The Merlot from Bedrock was co-fermented with a small amount of old vine Alicante Bouschet, adding richness, a deep violet color and pepper spice.

Winemaking: Each vineyard was harvested and produced separately. Both were destemmed and put it aside for a 5-day cold soak before native fermentation began. Both fermentations went into neutral oak barrels for secondary fermentation followed by an 18-month élevage. All of our red wines are left on their primary lees for extended period of time to help build volume and varietal character. The barrels for this blend were selected during the 2016 blending trials and bottled unfiltered.
